Girls who can just throw on a dress and walk out the door have NO IDEA what its like to be trapped in an inner thigh chafing prison, I mean what’s the point of wearing a flowing sundress if you’re bound up in spanx on underneath so your thighs wont touch? And even if you don’t mind wearing spanx under your dresses, it gets annoying to constantly do the “let me yank the hem of my dress down in case my spanx are showing” dance.
Ever since I discovered that I could prevent inner thigh chafing and give myself the freedom to walk around with bare legs, I’ve been obsessed. As with preventing ingrown hairs, I like to test out different products until I feel I’ve got the best solution.
I have full thighs and sensitive skin, so every step I take is potential disaster. For me, preventing the awful burning, bumps, blisters, irritation and welts from chub rub comes down to creating a perfect layer of skin protection that will last while I walk around NYC. So, here’s my three-step anti-chafing regimen:
Step One: Coconut Oil
After I get out of the shower I like to moisturize with coconut oil. I have some in a spray bottle that I use to spritz my body, I find that when I rub coconut oil onto my inner thighs it gives them a “slick” feeling which begins the layer of skin protection as I walk around my apartment and get dressed.
Step Two: Shea Butter
Raw Shea Butter is a natural skin protectant. If I apply Shea Butter before any “anti-chaffing” products it makes them last longer and I have to re-apply less often. I don’t like the smell of plain Shea Butter, so I purchase mine with scent infusions. (Added Bonus: Nothing wrong with a pleasant scent between your thighs, right?)
Step Three: Anti-Chaffing Balm/Gel
After I’ve coated my inner thighs with Shea Butter, I then swipe on a layer of Anti-Chaffing Balm or Gel. My favorite is Gold Bond Friction Defense (I feel it lasts the longest). I also like Monistats Powder Gel.
The only thing I carry in my purse is the product I use in the last step (balm or powder its your choice) I reapply as needed throughout the day, but if you do steps one and two that shouldn’t be too often.
