The Big Girl Blog on Marie Claire

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the Maura Kelly/Marie Claire article that was published this week.

Marie Claire asked me to write a response to it, so I did. You can find it here. Feel free to leave comments, I’ll be checking them….

Happy Friday!

xoxo

    Congrats!
Great post! We do need to be reminded from time to time that we are people and our feelings matter too. You’re 100% we can not control what other people think about us. But if they chose to voice it, then they better be prepared for our feedback.

Once I gained the weight, I became very aware of my own sterotype opinion I have had of over weight people. Not everyone is heavy due to laziness.

Although I do not plan to be heavy forever. I’m forever greatful for the experience.

As always, it’s a pleasure to read your blog.

Outstanding response Cece! I’d post a comment on the Marie Claire site, but uhh…it’s pretty nasty over there, lol. And I don’t feel like setting up an account, so…I’ll just leave my positive comment here on your site.

I’m glad they asked you to be a guest blogger.

Hey Cece- I love your blog! However, I’m kinda bummed that you did this for Marie Claire. They wouldn’t need to be presenting “counterpoints” if they hadn’t published a piece of blatant hate speech in the first place. I agree with what you said 100%; we do need to be confident in ourselves and not let others define us. It is a beautifully written and well-articulated piece, just like everything you write. I just don’t think Marie Claire deserves your talents or your tolerance.

You tell them sista! Way to stick up for all us curvacious broads (and women everywhere, thank you) in such an eloquent manner:)

Cece, that was a beautiful post! I have been feeling so low lately, and then reading that Marie Claire article for the first time today just made me feel like shit (excuse my french). But your post…wow…I couldn’t have said better myself. You handled it the best way a PSP could…with elegance and class! I even used what u said as a fb status: “We can’t control what people see when they look at us, but we can control what we know to be true about ourselves”. I’m so glad that I’ve learned about your blog because you’re helping me to appreciate who I am post by post! Thank you Cece!
